Red Sails in the Sunset
/I was drawn to Maine again. My CLAUTIA traveling companion invited me on a glorious return trip to her childhood home in Kennebunkport. It did not disappoint. Lobster rolls, seafood stew, blue skies, and, most of all, delightful time together made for a wonderful visit.
Looking east, I saw little more than blue sky. But as we drove up the shore toward Bush’s place, I turned back toward the lowering sun. What I saw was magnificent.
Clouds had gathered and were developing beautiful patterns, absorbing and reflecting colors I could hardly imagine. As the sun dropped lower, the sky became a canvas of changing light and color.
I felt joyous capturing these scenes. I knew immediately that they were perfect subjects for the painterly interpretation I love to bring to my photographs.
Perhaps that's what keeps drawing me back to the shore: there is always something new to see in familiar places, especially when the light is right.
