ABSTRACTION: A New Photographic Journey

I have been considering eliminating my gallery website, MESipe.com, and bringing everything together at MikeSipe.com, where I share my books and blogs. But as I begin creating my newest photographic project, Abstraction, I realize MESipe.com has an important role to play. It is a place where prospective images for the book can be seen, considered, and perhaps even challenged.

I already have more than 200 images competing for the 50 spots I am reserving for Abstraction. Over the next several months, I expect to create many more before making my final selections.

I invite you to follow my recent work and explore the growing Abstraction gallery at MESipe.com. Your reactions, thoughts, and feelings about the images would be most welcome. This is a journey of discovery, and I would enjoy having you along.

There is, however, a bigger question.

Where will my reflections take me?

In each of my previous three books—Water Reflections, Skyward, and Gifts of Divine Design—the written reflections became an important and deeply fulfilling part of the creative process. They gave the images another dimension, often revealing something about myself that I had not fully recognized before.

I would like Abstraction to include perhaps ten pages of reflections. Yet, for now, I find myself at a bit of a creative impasse. I have images waiting to be chosen, but I don't yet know what I want to say about them—or what they might have to say to me.

Perhaps that is as it should be.

I will give myself time to look, to experiment, to ruminate, and to see what emerges. I have learned that not everything meaningful can be planned in advance. Sometimes we must simply remain open to what comes.

For now, the images will lead the way. I trust the reflections will follow.
